Introduction

Hello there, Niki here...Kamali is the wolf. I just created this LJ today and decided to go hunting through the interests and groups to see if they had any of mine and I stumbled across this...and many others. I'm glad that there are quite a few communities on here where I can be myself.

Ever since I was little I had an affinaty for wolves. I would read books about them all the time, I even called myself Nicole K Wolfy J in the second grade....seriously that what I put on my papers. I even have an old drawing I did then of me with wolves, I also adopted a wolf from the Sawtooth pack. When in elementry school I would crawl around pretending to be a wolf. Back then I never even heard of a Therian until just last year I believe. I have always felt that there was another part of me that was wolf, even before I knew what it meant. When I dream sometimes I would see myself as a white wolf as they have always been my favorite. Last year I can across a group on myspace and they had a description of each type and I about jumped for joy when I came across Therian! I finally felt like I had found someplace were I belonged and wouldn't be looked at as a weirdo. Before, Kamali was just "my white wolf" as I called her, now she has a name.

I hope that I will be able to meet others and make new friends in the Therian community! *howls*

Oh no I don't view her as seperate, she is me and I am her. I am new to this whole thing I have given my animal side a seperate name, I am Niki. I like to use that in the online groups especially because then I don't have to give my real name. I knew I would come off wrong. I have done research and the therianthropy fits more. But I will check out the links you have provided just so that I am sure. What I meant is that she is me but at the same time I feel she guides me if that makes more sense.

Well in totemist there is incorporation of animal attributes on some level, and what you describe sound more like that. Most animal people (therianthropes) on the other hand don't talk about themselves at the third person unless in specific contexts, and they aren't guided by their animal-identity. Because that's what it is, an identity, not an external thing that has a name and protect or guide you. :) Your animal experience does not sound like it is therianthropic.

Welcome! I also agree with the above poster. That statement seems to describe totemism more so than therianthropy. WildSpeak is amazing and can help you learn solid information about animal guides.

I second what paleo said... I was going to ask if Kamali is you, or if Kamali seems to be separate from you.

A lot of people have a nickname that they use in therian groups, and a lot of people say "my animal side" just to make it easier to understand, but there's an important difference between BEING the animal and having a separate guardian spirit/guide thing.

Also, welcome :)

Hello there.

*Points to three previous comments.* Just like they said. :P

You may want to do a little more research on both therianthropy and totemism so that you get a better idea in how they differ from each other; for the latter, Wildspeak indeed is good start and I'd recommend it as well.

Therianthropy-wise, perhaps http://www.dreamofhorn.com/therian/ and you can go from there.

Well now that I have made myself look like a dork lol, I read the totem thing and that just does not fit at all. She doesn't come to me as it says, like a guide sort of thing. She has been with me all along, she is me. After reading that I re-read what I wrote and realize that it does sound more like the totem thing, which I had not known about when I wrote this, so thank you Cutiexbunnie for putting that wind speak link on here. I even went on the link Aloiis gave me for the Therians. I found that to be very good! Ketrino's theories and thoughts were wonderful! Now that I have read that info I see that "My animal side" would have been better or something along those lines. Or maybe I shouldn't have used that at all. *sighs* I have no idea. It makes sense to me in calling her my white wolf but I can see were it is taken wrong.

See my reply to you a little above. :)

You're not making sense to me, as an animal-person, at the moment, and it gives me the feeling you're a bit confused. I think you should take the time to do more research about all of this. It's not in one night of reading a couple of essays that you'll find your answers. Take a few weeks or months of hard thinking, and good luck on your journey. :)

Thank you. If there is anymore things that I can use that would be great. I have done a search and on both and some others...even the furry thing but I know that is definately not me I have never thought about dressing up as a wolf, but again everything is still new to me so I am definately going to be doing lots and lots of research.

When you call it "my wolf", it comes across to me almost as possessive, like she is your pet, your friend, or your guardian. Saying "my wolf side", on the other hand, is quite common among therians as a way to refer to their animal identity.

For a lot of therians (myself included), their human and animal identities are intertwined so closely that it's not really human side vs. animal side. I don't say I'm part human and part crow, I'm a crowperson. But even though human and bird are the same thing, saying "my crow side" makes it easier for other people to understand that I am talking about my more non-human aspect.

I hope that made sense.

And like thealphawolf said... you can call it whatever you want, it'll be the same thing no matter what name you put to it, but ultimately if you want to be understood correctly by other therians, it'd be a good idea to pick up the lingo that everyone else is using *shrug* or just be prepared to explain it a lot :)

Okay so I am reposting this....my spelling was horrible. I type way too fast. Here is my edited reply. LoL
Thank you for understanding. I guess like 7deadlysins said I need to learn the lingo. I knew that I wouldn't make sense because I have never known any other therians before and like I said, just last year I found out about it. I think a part of it was that I was going off of how a lot of them talk on the boards there.

And yes! I could always use another wolf to talk to!!
